Position Summary:

The Modoc Nation is seeking two seasonal full-time Regenerative Grazing Crew Members to join our team on over 4,000 acres of high-desert rangelands, with expansion underway. This crew will play a vital role in our Landscape Scale Restoration efforts—reducing wildfire risks, eradicating invasive weeds, improving water quality, supporting native species, and restoring habitats across the Modoc Ancestral Homelands.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care for 50–100 goats, guardian animals, and other livestock as needed
  • Move goat herd daily using temporary fencing and trailers
  • Receive free training in regenerative grazing practices and techniques
  • Remove invasive weeds, reduce wildfire risks, improve soil health, and support biodiversity
  • Reseed and promote growth of native grasses and forbs
  • Complete general facility repairs as directed
  • Assist in preparing lands for reintroduction of extirpated native species
  • Reduce vegetation in irrigation ditches in partnership with irrigation organizations

Qualifications

  • Available to work 40 hours per week, including some weekends
  • Reliable transportation to and from Modoc Ranch
  • Goat or sheep herding experience preferred
  • Tribal preference applies; Indigenous ecological knowledge is a plus
  • Student internships and training opportunities available for developmental candidates

Compensation

$16.50/hour | Seasonal, Full-Time | 30 Weeks/Year

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders for extended periods.

Employment Details

  • Pay: $16.50/hour for approximately 30 weeks/year
