The Bison Ranch Hand Duties and Responsibilities are as follows:

1. Help develop and implement a comprehensive grazing plan within Tribal guidelines.

2. Help plan and develop the pastures (fences, water systems, forage inventory) ahead of the grazing rotation and ranch-wide as needed.

3. Handle monthly reporting of grazing activity, range health, feeding and feed inventories, fuel and maintenance logs, and conservation efforts.

4. Assist with the development of plans for capital improvements.

5. Feed bison (hay, cake, salt, and mineral).

6. Move/handle bison using low-stress techniques.

7. Handle the development and maintenance of ranch buildings, fences, corrals, barns, and water sources.

8. Safely operate and maintain vehicles, tractors, and heavy equipment with various attachments.

9. Safely operate ATV and UTV.

10. Actively perform ranch cleanup.

11. Maintain and repair ponds, wells, pipelines, and water tanks.

12. Use chemicals to assist with weed control.

13. Watch for fires during storms /fight fires in the event of one.

14. Participate in ranch weekend work/chore rotation (on duty every third weekend).

15. Vaccinate livestock using syringes and hypodermic needles.

16. Participate in the Ranch Safety Program.

17. Perform general ranch work and other duties assigned.

18. This position will operate under the direct supervision of the Modoc Nation Ranch Manager

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED preferred.

2 + years of experience working on a ranch with livestock.

Hours of employment

This Employee shall maintain regular hours Monday through Friday (up to 40 hours/week). From time to time, this employee may be required to adjust to weekends or evenings to meet the needs and demands of the ranch, and the ranch manager will give the employee notice.

Compensation

The salary range is $15 to $20 per hour plus benefits.
